Chiropractic Techniques

Diversified Technique (Hands on Adjustments)

The Diversified technique is one of the most widely practiced chiropractic methods. It is a hands-on approach that combines spinal manipulation with various adjustment styles. The chiropractor uses a high-velocity, low-amplitude thrust to correct misalignments and improve range of motion. This technique is typically performed with the patient either lying down or seated, and it may involve both spinal adjustments and joint manipulation in other areas like the extremities. The focus is on restoring spinal alignment and improving overall health.

Spinal Mobilization (Gentle Hands on Approach)

Spinal mobilization is a gentler form of spinal manipulation that involves slow, controlled movements and stretches to improve the mobility of spinal joints and reduce stiffness. Unlike high-velocity, low-amplitude thrusts, spinal mobilization involves a low-force, rhythmic technique that targets restricted or tight joints in the spine. This method can be particularly beneficial for patients with chronic pain, acute injuries, or those who are unable to tolerate more aggressive adjustments. The goal is to gradually restore motion, reduce discomfort, and enhance overall flexibility and spinal health.

Soft Tissue Therapy

While technically not a spinal adjustment technique, soft tissue therapy is an important component of chiropractic care. Chiropractors often use methods like massage, trigger point therapy, myofascial release, or stretching to treat muscle and soft tissue pain. These therapies are aimed at releasing tension, improving circulation, and addressing specific muscle groups that may contribute to discomfort or restricted movement. Soft tissue therapy complements spinal adjustments by addressing the muscle component of musculoskeletal issues.

Thompson Technique (Drop Table)

The Thompson Technique, also known as the Thompson Drop Table Technique, involves the use of a specialized chiropractic table with drop mechanisms in the segments. When the chiropractor applies a specific adjustment, the table's section will drop slightly, allowing the body to move with the force of the adjustment, reducing the need for high velocity thrusts. This technique is often less jarring and is commonly used for patients with lower back pain, herniated discs, or spinal misalignments.

Activator Method

The Activator Method uses a small, hand-held device called the Activator Adjusting Instrument. This tool delivers a gentle, controlled impulse to specific areas of the spine or other joints in the body. The technique is less forceful than traditional spinal manipulation and is often preferred by patients who are sensitive to manual adjustments. It is particularly useful for individuals with conditions like arthritis, osteoporosis, or those who prefer a gentler approach.

Flexion-Distraction Technique

This technique is primarily used to treat disc-related problems, such as herniated discs, bulging discs, or degenerative disc disease. It involves a gentle, non-thrusting method of spinal manipulation where the chiropractor uses a special table that allows the patient's spine to be gently stretched and flexed. The chiropractor will apply a distraction force while the patient’s spine is slowly flexed, helping to create space between the vertebrae, reducing pressure on the spinal discs, and alleviating nerve irritation.

Arthrostim Technique

The Arthrostim Technique involves the use of a specialized handheld device called the Arthrostim, which provides high-frequency, low-amplitude vibrations to specific areas of the body, primarily the spine and joints. This technique is less forceful than traditional spinal adjustments and is ideal for patients who prefer a gentler approach or are unable to tolerate manual adjustments. The Arthrostim is effective for reducing tension, increasing range of motion, and addressing misalignments by delivering rapid, controlled impulses to the affected area, offering a more comfortable and precise treatment option.
